  The approach to studying media politics in this book is distinctive in two respects. The first, as already suggested, is that it focuses on the diverse self-interests of the participants and how they shape the nature of media politics. This is a departure from most studies of media politics. the most visible proponents of this perspective is political scientist Benjamin Barber, who formulated his theory about the globalization of culture in the book Jihad vs. McWorld (). The subtitle, "How Globalism and Tribalism Are Reshaping the World," betrays Barber's.
